	ABOUT PUNE
	The city of Pune is situated in Maharashtra and is said to be the cultural capital of the state. Located at a distance of approximately 120 kms from Mumbai, the city is one of major tourist destinations in India. Pune is also one of the largest urban agglomerations in India. Pune city is situated at the eastern edge of the Western Ghats on the Deccan plateau, at an altitude of 559 m above sea level. Initially developed as an agricultural settlement, Pune city now counts amongst the most developed cities of India. One of the major attractions of the city is Osho Commune International, an ashram set up by Rajneesh Osho for teaching meditation. Apart from that, the city serves as the base for visiting Shirdi, known for housing the samadhi temple of Sri Sai Baba. The Buddhist caves of Bhaja and Karla are also situated quite near to Pune. The rich history, architecture and culture of the city makes it a must visit destination for the tourist coming to India. Pune was initially built as an agricultural settlement, by the name of Punnaka. The city dates back to the 8th century and was under the rule of the Rashtrakutas. After Rashtrakutas, the city came under the reign of the Mughals and the Marathas, which came to end somewhere around the year 1818. After the country attained independence, efforts were made to develop Pune as an educational and research center. The first step in this regard was the establishment of the University of Pune, and the National Defence Academy (NDA) in the city. Today, Pune is home to some of the best schools, colleges as well as professional institutions of India. Infact, the city is known as the 'Oxford of the East'. The establishment of numerous software companies in the city has added to its attraction.
	BEST TIME TO VISIT
	The city of Pune experiences a very pleasant and favorable climate throughout the year. Situated in the state of Maharashtra, the Pune city stands bordered by the ranges of the Sahyadri Mountain. The moderate weather as well as the rich flora and fauna of the city make it an ideal travel destination. The best time to visit Pune is during the period of October to March. Most of the tourists visit Pune during these months only.

Rail: Pune is well-linked to other cities of India by rail transport and frequent services are available to the capital city of Maharashtra—Mumbai. The major trains by which you can access Pune by rail are Azad Hind, Goa Exp, Deccan Queen Express, Intercity Express, Azad Hind Express, Hutatma Express, Dadar - Chennai Central Express, Shatabdi Express, Nagercoil Express and Coimbatore Express. Road: Getting to Pune by road is real fun and a fantastic experience due to the presence of three national highways (NH) and an expressway. You can reach Pune from Mumbai by the Pune-Mumbai Highway. Both the private and state owned companies provide the service of luxury buses. You can also use NH 4 in order to reach Pune from Mumbai. The cities of Solapur, Homnabad, Hyderabad and Vijaywada are linked to Pune through NH 9. You can reach Pune from Nashik on the NH 50.
