Raigad was also known as the Capital City of Shivaji Maharajas regime, this is the very place were Shivaji built his capital city and crowned himself Chatrapati on June 6, 1674. Raigad city is situated 869 meters above sea level, is spread over a distance of 12 kms. There fort was also known as Durgadeshwar which was originally named Raigiri and finally it was given the name of Raigad by Shivaji.
